Hiking
It’s now May 2024 and I’ve been successful with getting new and more modern gear, got in better shape and have done some great hikes. This year’s big adventure is Mount Assiniboine (and no I am not taking the helicopter!). I tried to get reservations for the Rockwall trail, but no luck so then I tried for Assiniboine park, and got a reservation! Also hopefully some time in Manning Park and the Sunshine Coast Trail.
I’m looking for fellow hikers to join me on some backpacking adventures. It’s June 2022 as I write this and I’m 62 years old. It’s been 2013 since I did my last backpacking trip, and the bulk of my adventures were when my kids got older and I was in my 40’s and 50’s. Now my kids are raising young families of their own and can’t join me at this time in their life. Most of my hiking has been relatively near my home here in Surrey BC, and on Vancouver Island. I’ve done the world famous West Coast trail, the Nootka trail (a favourite), Juan de Fuca, Cape Scott, Manning Park, lots of trips into Garibaldi park and one trip to Cathedral Lakes.
It’s time for me to start getting back out there, soon I hope to retire and I’ll have a lot more time to experience some great hikes. As part of my retirement plan I hope to move to Vancouver Island. I’d love to try out the North Coast trail someday which is close to my childhood home of Port Hardy.
Check out my upcoming plans. I’m starting small at first and hopefully over the next few years I can get in shape and gain some more experience again to try some more ambitious hikes.
My hope is that I can help other aging people like myself to get out there and get some great hiking adventures in. Starting small for now!
One big goal for me I hope to achieve is to hike the West Coast trail again in the next few years. And for the mainland, to hike the Rockwall trail.
